VI Rota do Azeite - Proença-a-Velha

Boas pedaladas,

Comi a barra de cereais primeiro, perto do km 20 a banana quando me lembrei-me “então e as fotos!?”.

A glicémia registada antes do VITARGO PROTEIN marcava 183mg/dL.

Good cycling,

At fast with 92 mg/dL, I hadn't fast insulin, reduced the basal and took my breakfast rich in slow acting HC - whole flakes grains with milk. Cautious in my pocket I took a cereal bar and a banana - convinced that I would eat them, before 1st supply...

At least 150 riders, some of them accompanied with the family, come to their origins to enjoy and thus streamline the 12th Olive Oil and Meats Festival. On Sunday at 9a.m. the VI Olive Oil Route left off the streets...

On this event I verify my athlete performance, for the begging of the year. My hands resented from the ground!!! In the first 10/15km I tried to find the right pace (my workouts have been between race, trail run and cycling). Ate the cereal bar first and near the 20km the banana, and remembered "what about the photos?".

On the single supply zone, midway, in the "Village of João Pires" - on this spot I had never stopped - we found the typical quality ACIN supply, some olive oil bread mixed with cheese and FIAMBRE and more, muffins, "borrachões" cakes, juices, cola, water, fruit, bars... I had 289 mg/dL, so I dilute the VITARGO ELECTROLITE, ate an olive oil bread mixed, 1/4 orange and drink water.

The single tracks are charismatic in this event, some mud, creeks crossings, the bigger had the ACIN works - wooden bridges built purposely - flat tires and some rider’s falls, all this happens on any event of this kind. At Raia - frontier zone - the MTB Spanish teams appear in force. The villages visited were Bemposta, Aldeia de João Pires and Medelin.

I was in test, by the blood glucose value I "pushed" the pace also to confirm the performance, taking pictures, help on others flat tires. At km 35 I took a Vitargo GEL for the remaining miles. I can say that I did well, workouts become efficient I could prove it. The registered glycemia before VITARGO PROTEIN marked 183 mg/dL.
This VI Rota do Azeite, from I remember, it was the largest, most technical, harder, and more liked, even the weather was fine, no rain!

Boas corridas,

Caminhadas boas,

Good runs,

The week has been rich in rain but the weekend, in particular, would be target of "Stephanie" storm!

At fast I confirm the hypo (53mg/dL), I didn't give fast insulin and I reduce the basal... I had a great concern doing the 25km, I had never done this distance, at least that I remember, maybe when was a Boy Scout (AEP 67)...

To Viva Velha de Rodão the sky remained gray without rain, despite the threats. "Fallen in parachute" on a trail run event, I recognize MTB, run and Facebook faces! I exchanged a few words, after zero control (required bring to: survival blanket, water reserve, whistle, cup and cell phone), listen to the Organization advices and we went.

I followed the advice of Sérgio Moreira (blue O Rider specialist in this model), "from back to front", I ripped on a "relax" mode, especially watching around... In a experience standpoint, I adapted everything: MTB backpack, which I not use, trail sneakers with worn out soles on asphalt, CANYON bike's GPS, the athlete, with short workouts, concerned about the distance. We all had lucky, I only wear waterproof 10 to 15 minutes during the morning, until the sun came up!

My inexperience, in reality, the sharp increases, early forced me to distance from the original group - the regulars - I must confess, the well prepared... The reactions were good, lacking the fast insulin, my glycemia was ripe to be burned! I stretched it to Bamba King Gazebo overlooking to "Portas de Rodão", continued until Vilas Ruivas. I liked very much the technical transitions, far way are the Boy Scout days!

Before the 1st control, I testimony with video, the main technical descent from the 25km, leading by Mrs. Analise, the "godmother" trail events, with over 65 years old - she went to the 45km - with her, advices and tips are a constant! In Vilas Ruivas, 1st control and supply, 290 mg/dL! I dilute the VITARGO, some salted peanuts, crisps, half a cola and a banana.

To Penedo Gordo was almost rising up, there we drank a muscular recover drink. From the blowing wind, we'll appreciate it a bonnet and a wool sweater (I didn’t' wear because I did haven’t one)!

To Tostão was always down to the 3rd control and supply - 174mg/dL - the locals presented us with a warm "caldo verde" (a typical Portuguese soup) and the rest of it, as good as the 1st. Like these, we came back for sure... Already with some pain, was reassuring to hear the clapping and the phrase that all repeat: "go on, missing now only 8km"!

Who arrives at the end of something, but, without having sure he could finish, is happy! Certainly to repeat...

Good walks,
casf
