I Mini Meia Maratona Castelo Branco - Alcains

Boas corridas,

Posição no meu escalão: #4 367 CARLOS FARINHA VET "blue O / changing diabetes" 00:47:12 min.

Corridas boas,

Good runs,

In Portugal the April 25th is synonymous of FREEDOM, even if you were born in 1974.
I make my inscription on the morning and whet to the "I Mini Half Marathon Castelo Branco - Alcains" make 10K, even with some logistics limitations. I thank to the young man to taking me there.
Almost on hypo at fast I measure 92 mg/dL, I reduce the bolus and gave the normal slow. I took with me a banana that I ate 30 min before and put a VITARGO GEL on my belt, for some case...
We start on halfway from the Half - after the firsts athletes pass out - an the thing was fast, on my pace, the last 5K I did with Paula Ramos from GCA Donas, not knowing exactly who push by whom!
I have to keep practicing, I could be needed...
Position on my rank: #4 367 CARLOS FARINHA VET "blue O / changing diabetes" 00:47:12 min.

Run good,

Maratona Alcains - Gardunha

Boas pedaladas,

O sensor do Dexcom G4 “deixou-ma a pé” no Sábado.

Pedaladas boas,
casf

Good pedaling

In the morning I woke up with 167 mg/dL, I made the normal insulin adjustments taking into account the number of miles I would do it.

The DexCom G4 sensor "let me on foot" on Saturday. Not yet to see my blood glucose interpretation during a mountain bike race...

The week before despite being hot at 5km I had my legs and bike wheels literally buried in the mud. As usual, I advancing from behind, or, I’ll take control, taking some pictures to illustrate.

Because of drugs I've been taking I did not succumb to the "death rows" - red signal to ALLERGIES! The grass was at its maximum strength, had heights that it was better to close your mouth!

By 10am and some minutes I arrive to 1st supply where they already roasted some meats, but not wanting to waste too much time; I didn’t measure my glycemia, ate a banana, a dry cake with half juice and dilute the VITARGO ELECTROLYTE.

The tracks separation was before 40km, by the effort I took a VITARGO GEL, after climbed a "wall", at which time follow together with António Pequito.

Reaching the 2nd supply I accuse 108 mg/dL, conveniently eaten! António waited for me so we do the rest together, we were supposed to be the last two from the biggest.

At one point we stopped to do a 'recycling' of how to repair a hole! It was the 2nd time he stopped, we found the peak of 1st hole in tubeless tire, we patched the inner tube, always filling (pump and CO2) and finally, proving that we didn’t have some results, we had to replace the inner tube, summarizing, more than 45 minutes stopped.

The land roads near Tinalhas led us to the spectacular single tracks worked out for this event requiring the technique of both 29 wheels.

In Cafede already waiting for us - the last ones – it was like a party, I say! We climbed the stone driveway and entered Alcains after 15pm and even cheered us, I had my fans waiting for me and a hypo starting...

Cycling good,

Território Circuito Centro #4 Sertã

Boas corridas,

Good runs,
I went to the 4th and final step of "Território Circuito Centro" to "cement" my Trail Run events. It was my 2nd presence in events of this kind. As a sports lover I am, the good it makes me and the image I handing over, I'll repeat many more, and now for revenge...

The Dexcom G4 is amazing, it allow us to know blood glucose displacement during event evening and Sunday morning on my blood glucose reader - we continue to use it, including for G4 calibration - I confirmed 173 mg/dL. I reduced basal and shouldn't have reduced the fast.
Arriving at Sertã, I confirmed the start for those who made 25k was only at 10am, after we traveled by bus to Malhadal river beach. Much of the route on line followed the riverbed - some technical parts required very respect - with my feet’s in water and buried in mud from the first kilometers.
Back to glycemia, the "delay" on 25k starting, it exceeded up to 300 mg/dL... The first ramp separated this group, those from 45k they ran from 9am. I record a technical section with some cost I confess, we were about to split up due to different rhythms. These events absolutely "remind me" my childhood and Boy Scouts, but here I get dirty much more!

After 1st supply, at 7k I looked at the Dexcom G4 which recorded +/- 250 mg/dL, I ate two portions of maize porridge - hot it’s really good - some salted peanuts with some Coca-Cola and dilute the VITARGO ELECTROLYTE. The technical sections of the river side, at a glance, and without realizing it I wet those parts waist...
On a simple technical descent I twisted my ankle, because I’m light and I was hot apparently I didn’t resented it, was near the 10K when I started walking, the pains began. The right quadriceps could not stand more than 20 meters runing twisted, forcing much more the leg whose ankle was already marked! From my amateurism on this was not worth forcing. I start a walking pace, trying to run without success.

Only in plan I could go right and any inclination disfigured my physical aspect and like that I got to the 2nd supply, confronting the little calorie consumption between Dexcom G4 meter and blood glucose reader, almost made jackpot! 227 mg/dL and 225 mg/dL respectively. It was more hydrating than eating, I bite occasionally my VITARGO ENDURANCE.

I and another athlete were “chopped" with the information that Luís Mota (national reference on Trail Run), had passed our beginning and another river beach, over half an hour... We went to remaining 9km. The camera came out of the bag more often, I limited myself to wait... I was picking up, few remaining 25k athletes and here comes Luis Mota. Beside him was a 'colleague' from #2 VVR - in short distance - and even with the encouragement of some, the pain was already reflected by both legs, did not allow me more than walk.

The arrival at Sertã was by recreation area, near the river.

I congratulate the organization, only with two presences on short distance, let me “with water in my mouth” and now with the certainty that I’ll repeat, lets do some stairs to train I have to take my revenge !

Run good,
casf

NOTE - The Dexcom G4 does readings by interstitial fluid, and any reader of glycemia, "reads" the blood after puncturing the finger, whose precision is higher.

The Dexcom G4 each 12h "asks" for calibration from the blood glucose reader. Shouldn’t in any way act in our blood glucose values by reading the Dexcom, they even say...

IV Maratona IFCC - Cebolais - Castelo Branco

Boas pedaladas,

No final 186 mg/dL.

Pedaladas boas,
casf

Good cycling,

At fasting I accused last night birthday party, 235 mg/dL. With 65K in mind I given 2 fast insulin units and reduce the basal. The Organization "Industría Futebol Club Cebolense - IFCC" from the 1st event they served a breakfast for every participants, I invest in a slice of homemade cake and a boil coffee.

The day was leaning to a very rainy Sunday - like last year - however, it remained "calm", even some sunshine, becoming greyer throughout the morning.

Sometime before 1st supply passed us, me and another rider, a reindeer with a fairly sizable - we commented the simplicity with which moved into full climb - we were starting sections of climbs for this supply, between 15K and 20K. I measure 212 mg/dL, I dilute the VITARGO ELECTROLYTE, ate a banana, drank water and took two cereal bars with me.

With the right rhythm "geared" I started the photographic report... Many of followed sections had a mix of amazing single treks - on the side of the brooks, among the pines trees, shale’s - some, along the entire route, were open with a lot of work, so on all supplies I praised all the route.

The blood glucose was under control, my cereal bars were being consumed and at some point I swallowed my VITARGO GEL, I felt weak, approaching the last supply. Ate a cheese sandwich with a bit of juice and a slice of cake. It took another banana and another careal bar.

I kept a steady pace (if weren't so many photos, in many, the phone performance makes me want to leave it abandoned in the field), in which the legs responded well, but this last section is called "breaks legs", ups and downs, kind off XCO style - short and inclined - for well-trained legs!!! The organization showed again a great job in the open treks for this purpose. I finished with 186 mg/dL.

An event with enough character where the hosts know how to receive, with hot showers and a matched lunch, more, with the right to receive a ticket with 1st award was a new and washed bike with over €2000 value. Like that I think I never saw this!

Cycling good,
