Maratona X100 - Castelo Branco

Boas pedaladas,

Pedaladas boas,

Good rides,

This marathon in my hometown did not involve large movements, so some tracks were already known.

The heat of previous week scared me for the 80km, with high temperature, implies a resource management!

I woke up with high glucose; 212mg/dL, I prepare a ”light” breakfast, reducing the insulin units.

The “virtual” start was given in Castelo Branco Beach Pool, located in the recreation area, with great athletes competing for the podium, the local team Liveplace by Palegessos / Bicicletas Santiago, also the national champion from XCM, Jose Silva and many other. We whent to Castelo Branco center town and was Chamber President give the star, toward schist villages.

In the 1st Supply Zone (Juncal do Campo village) I measured 199mg/dL, I fill with water my water bottle, ate banana, orange and drank half of cola glass. The felted heat made a constant hydration.

On the way to Martin Branco and Almaceda villages we side a river track with a high beauty, which mountain biking allows you to enjoy.

In Almaceda village, 2nd SZ, I measure 131mg/dL we were halfway, I eaten to make other 40km (we had Pedragueira Mountain). I was surprised when my Sunday rides friends appear, Nuno Maia, Rui Salgueiro, Luíz Rosado, Dário Falcão and João Rodrigues, who have more “pedaling” than I, explained to me the "adventures" so far.

We all went on high-speed (too much for my training pace), they pulled me to the top of Lameirinha!!! After a while I start to detach myself from the group, somewhere in these lands; Maxial do Campo, Vale Ferradas and Azenha de Baixo, otherwise I not stand till the end. João Rodrigues and I we stayed back, him was also not keeping the same pace comparing the others, time to my VITARGO GEL.

I arrive to Sarzedas village, on a "snaked" ride inside the village, they settled the 3rd SZ, the rest of the group already was there and more. I did some stretching, didn’t measure the sugar and ate less than I drunk! João comes out and all together we did last descents, and consequently increases.

Before the Ocreza River we stay back, João and I, cramps made me stop several times in the last kilometers, difficulty stubbornly refused to slow down. We have the inevitable ascent, attacking my legs, but, up there it was Mr. Jose Maria from Bicicletas Santiago and company where they installed a "Paddock" with grilled pork leg and sardines, isotonic and fresh water...

If I complained on that climb I suffer at the beginning of Industrial Zone already in Castelo Branco, where João went towards the goal, leaving this "circus contortionist" in positions, some suffer I must confess! Very tired accumulate with the heat, I think ...

Lack of training was evident on this event with more than 80km, together with the heat, sometimes exceeded 40°C, while all the way I hydrated including isotonic drink (minerals) my critical part in my behavior appears in the last supply. I didn’t measure my blood glucose, know the value I could followed the best procedure, although that shouldn’t be high, cramps usually appear with high temperatures or high blood sugar. The lack of training, clear today, forces me to solve this gap; I will look for a thin road bike and train ReZZisTeNcE...

Rides good,
casf
