This track was, from my point of view, a kind of Geo Trans...
At 8am the Magnificent Seven leave. I was the less prepared!
The rain combined with spring temperatures carries out these transformations in nature, greenery at its full strength, getting the legs with several "massages" - scratches.
After the first 10 km 1st TRANS... of a small river with water to the knees. On the top hill, after 15 km we took a "photo split”, 3 for the X100 Marathon from 2010 (João Valente and Fernando Micaelo with Trek twins and Agnelo Quelhas) us (Nuno Diaz, Falcão / Hamk, Abílio Fidalgo and me) for the "intended" X50 Marathon from 2010, but...
Using the GPS's we followed the trail "always straight", but after another dizzying descent (all of them down like DH throne kings) we found the next river to "TRANS...POSITION" would be complicated. Nuno, adventurer, took two steps into the river and from the depth and river current strength would be impossible TRANSPOSITION on that spot.
Track inversion, we ascend the "wall" that before we go down, as I'm light I climb without too much trouble (if I don’t get one hypo), on the tope I toke a banana that I carry to keep blood sugar levels stable.
We put GPS finding alternatives, we follow, given the opportunity to communicate and keep in touch about blue O Project. These three friends always careful, not to move away off their wheels.
I mentioned this detail before, because I did not know the route, stops and possible kms to do, I "lost myself" a little, intake of carbohydrates.
Therefore it was interesting, it’s the real ride for the pleasure of doing so, I agree with you Hawk, as I leave with me a super caloric GEL I started by the 25km taking a little at the time, and a normal grocery cereals bar during.
Arriving at another TRANS...POSITION riverside it was Nuno, again, that confirmed with three steps in there was very deep, with the water by the waist, then, with my “eagle eye” I see a lower spot, thankfully, because in the middle of it, with the bike on the top of my arms, I literally dip into, wetting two thirds of my body, equipment included.
In the middle of some laugh (it was the first time that we ride together) on the other side was Nuno who lent me a winter Jersey, since the GPS was indicating another ascent to climb that took us to Barbaido location (known, affectionate, as the "center of the World").
I titled TRANS... because they were three rivers transpositions that we make, before we reach Juncal village we had the opportunity to once again wet our legs (in Portugal we say: there aren’t two times without a third one. The gel (only one) was regularly eaten, with plenty of H2O, until we get here. From there I “place” myself regarding the missing kms to the end of it, reaching Castelo Branco city (60km, around 5h, several route changes and three rivers crossings and a bath in the middle of all).
My special thanks to these three friends, the blue O will consider whether to have another TRANS... ride this year. Is there someone how can give me the confirmation when the sun will start to “burn”?!
