VIII Trilhos da Raia - Idanha-a-Nova

Boas pedaladas,

No próximo fim-de-semana em Idanha-a-Nova e porque me agrada particularmente é caso para dizer: "I will survive!"

In 2011 on "Trilhos da Raia" I start with longer Marathons, without so much train, it’s difficult to survive.
I repeat this year, however, they increase for 95 km, I only have reference from international Marathon "Trilhos do Lince", in March, 99km for more than 8h.
Next weekend in Idanda-a-Nova and because I love too much, it's the right time to say "I will survive!"

Boas pedaladas,

Fiz a subida toda à mão!
Lá em cima olhei à direita, esquerda, no chão e NADA!
Recorro ao SOS no qual me reiteram:

Do meu GARMIN:
Distância: 94,99km
Tempo: 8:26:40h
Veloc. Média: 11,2km/h
Ganho de elevação: 1.914m
Calorias: 3.416C
128 mg/dL

Pedaladas boas,

English

Good cycling,
Like last year, I went with blue O Rider Francisco Lagarto, who came the night before from Évora, this year was also José Carlos from Coruche, in the picture.
It was a chill air when we raise the dorsal, a little gray, but ready to "open". This year over 800 athletes were present, but not all finished, by my count, only 718, we three, at our own pace "controlling the thing" to ended finisher.

Initial tracks, are always dusty, I say DUSTY, really DUST!! With the influx, the famous Proença-a-Nova single tracks are always in a constant hustle, successive rows.

1st Supply Zone was near Medelin village, after 27km, if the sun had not yet appeared nothing was missing here; sandwiches, cut fruit, homemade cakes and industrial, water, sports drink, juices, friendships, photos, the typical in this situation!
Limited in blood test strips - only 3 - one didn't work, so I did not measure, with the largest marathon in mind I ate enough - I think the mistake was this - and I drank a glass of juice. I asked to portray us (Jose Carlos and I) and each went to his course. I tried to keep up with my cycling Sunday’s friends, but I have a particular pace from who didn't train so much, I cycle slow and with the kilometers ahead...

The rain I picked up was from here till Penha Garcia cliffs, however I was forced to stop, with high blood sugar symptom - polyuria - limited on blood test strips to control my value, I cycling to "burn" but with enough stops, one in a full descent to take a picture to the "totem".
He stay there watching by, I went down below till I see the 1st "wall" on which I “go through” an indication that crossed the road, with several arrows towards the right path. I made the climb all by hand! I looked to the right, left, down and NOTHING! I turn the SOS which they respond:
You raisin up, for sure, over the arrows!
Not ok??? I was so distracted!?
Perhaps thinking over the kms I still had to do, I follow the right direction that took me to the beautiful Iconological Penha Garcia Park, on this site can be observed some rock formations that hold fossils of prehistoric creatures, some with more 480 million years. This site is integrated into the pedestrian "Fossils Trail" (igogo.pt).

The sun was hiding behind clouds that already wet the ground, there is when the sounds of nature are more evident, fabulous, even prey... birds are heard. Forward down the cliffs to a small dam "Moinhos e Fosseis" - "Fossils and Windmills" with a waterfall. The very technical descents impose some concentration due the rain that had "watered" the stones, FABULOUS!

Just arrived 2nd SZ, I stopped with the symptoms of polyuria, immediately I measure 40 mg/dL!!! Direct thought was, this is all crazy! With fear, because the constant stops almost hadn't eaten anything during this journey but in the end I brought "hypo hunger"... VERY STRANGE, I thought.

Without public (I see two riders leaving) they tell me I was the last one, "good, now I have the car on my legs", I thought! Just arrives a boy riding a Land Rover "frame" - I overtake him at the beginning of descents - and attach it to him to don't stay behindhand, "wet cat fears cold water." I ate from all, of course, the table was pretty much just for me!

Trying not to detach from each other we were direction of Idanha-a-Velha village, where the Casqueiro Festival, I take off my cuffs, the sun showed up pretty warm, with my legs already marked by tiredness, for extended periods we had the Organization car "pushing for us", while the powder accumulation in the chains caused some technical problems with smaller crank to my buddy.

Already in the village I had some clapping, where I register 72 mg/dL. My willingness to eat wasn't any, I confess, I only did it out for necessity. A female Organization member, that I told her what had happened till 2nd SZ, she recognized me. I especially liked when she said "you're the blue O"! At that time my companion arrived told me his problems with gears.

We went towards the route known from other years, in the "heart" of Boom Festival in Marechal Carmona Dam, quite empty, enabled us to enjoy the single tracks distributed in its margin. The climbs to Idanha-a-Nova, this year, were PULLED OVER. Earth, tar and finally, the Roman walk from Srª da Graça, upped by hand to better contemplate its beauty and architectural features!

Officially 8:20:47h after I get to starting point at 233 position, I almost lift the bike in victory signal but I didn't saw any photographers. The applause from ACIN girl, I had spoken in last SZ, was enough to fill my legs and arms muscles, lower back and hand palms with full of PRIDE!
